Karakuri Site - The Karakuri Corner

The site is meant to function "as an educational gateway and a domestic marketplace for hard-to-find Japanese hobby products." I would say that the site fulfills its intended function very well. Lots of great products with images, descriptions, and videos.

Here's a link to The Karakuri Corner

All I have to say is: buyer beware. I pray that people Google this company before making any purchases, and see this comment and some others left on other boards.

I am one of three people who has had their credit cards charged and not only never received our orders, but also never heard back from the company at all.

In fact, while waiting for my order, the company seemed to close down entirely - the website disappeared, e-mails bounced back as undeliverable, even the given phone number wouldn't go through.

On the one hand I was happy, because the website being down meant no one else could place orders they would be charged for and never receive. (I had been foolish, and tried to make a purchase from the website without Googling it first, so I didn't see the other buyers' caveats until it was too late.)

Now, the website is up, and seems to be accepting e-mails again, which worries me.

Update: After some minor harassment on my part, I was able to (finally) get in touch with the Karakuri Corner guy, and he sent me my order. In 2008. I ordered mid-November 07, and hadn't heard a peep out of him since. I'm glad he didn't just walk away with my hundred bucks, but I have to wonder if I ever would have seen the product had I not kept on top of things. Oh well. All's well that ends well, I suppose.

DEFINITELY DO NOT ORDER FROM KARAKURI CORNER.

I made an order for Christmas delivery and did not receive a thing. Aaron emailed me soon after my card was charged and gave me a tracking number, but the tracking number was for a package going to another city. I was totally gypped. Now the website is shut down and unable to receive emails and I have to go through a collection agency to get my money back.

JUST DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THIS SCAMMER.

Lynn -- I doubt it will go through if the site is down AGAIN, but the personal e-mail he gave me when he FINALLY filled my order was aaron@karakuricorner.com. Give it a try.

Also, keep your eyes peeled. His pattern seems to be to open the website, get a bunch of orders, and close the website, hoping no one will bother to get their money back or ask for the product. As soon I saw the website was back up, I called and e-mailed repeatedly, and he eventually sent me the product. Keep checking back for when the website goes up again.

I have made a number of purchases from Aarron without any problems. I found the service to be excellent, and when a couple of parts were missing from my kit, he sent plenty of spares very quickly, at his own expense.
Whilst I cannot speak for others experiences, I sure as hell wouldn't call him a scammer, quite the opposite!

Scammer or not, 1 month after being charged on credit card, shut down website, bounces on all email addresses, and no luck phoning I think I have done my dollar too.

Potential purchasers beware, this list oif those who feel duped is growing.

I placed a large order with Aaron and heard nothing for a few months. I ended up getting money back through a credit card dispute.

What I found was that he would not speak with me at all. Either over his posted phone or email. However, when I opened a dummy account at Yahoo, he'd talk to me thinking I was a new customer. He's deliberately avoiding people he's taken orders from. I asked him, through the dummy account, what was going on with these orders. He told me that orders placed were shipping or refunded. He also did not want the people who were upset with him to have the "working email" he was corresponding with me through. It seems like this guy's just overwhelmed with his small business's demands. I wish he hadn't jerked me around. I don't think he's a thief, I think he's unable to manage his demands or ship dates. Instead of communicating with people, he puts his head in the sand. I was able to get these items through another vendor. For about a month, however, I wasn't sure if I had been scammed. Shame on him for being so slack and passive!
